Leg Vein Therapy

Services Available The Aesthetic Medicine of New Hampshire Center is offering both laser therapy and sclerotherapy for leg veins.

Aesthetic Medicine of NH is one of the first centers in the U.S. to have purchased the recently-FDA-approved Syneron Polaris LV equipment. The Polaris brings laser and radio-frequency (RF) energies together with skin cooling to provide the optimum energy levels to treat spider and reticular veins while protecting the skin structures. The laser penetrates the skin and the energy is absorbed by the pigment in the target vessel, producing heat. The RF energy penetrates the skin down to the level of the vessel, adding a complimentary energy source to provide the correct amount of thermal energy to damage the lining of the unwanted vein. The applicator is cooled to further protect the skin. The energy sources are pulsed for only a fraction of a second. The damaged vesssels are gradually removed by the body. Vessels up to 4 mm. in diameter may be treated with the Polaris LV system.

Larger vessels are better treated by sclerotherapy. During sclerotherpy a chemical solution is injected into the vein causing an irritation of the vessel wall, which sticks together, keeping blood from entering. The unwanted vessel is no longer available to circulate blood. Sclerotherapy has been used for many years, but newer more effective solutions are now being used.

The selection of procedure for any particular patient will be discussed with the patient on the initial consultation.
