Facial Skin Rejuvenation

Services Available The skin changes that we see as people age are due to naturally-occuring alterations in the skin with additional changes due to sun damage.

The effect of aging on the skin is a thinning of both of the skin layers, the epidermis and dermis. There is also a loss of elasticity due to decrease elastin and collagen in the dermis. The UV rays of the sun cause a drying and coarsening of the skin and the appearance of increased pigmentation (melanin). The benign pigment changes may take the form of lentigines (age spots, liver spots, etc.) or more diffuse changes (dyschromia). In addition, aging, sun damage, use of certain medications and other processes produce enlarging of superficial blood vessels known as telangiectasias.

In recent years a procedure known as Facial Skin Rejuvenation has been offered by aesthetics practitioners. This procedure uses the power of the Laser or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) machines to eradicate the pigment and the vessels in the damaged skin. These energy sources also stimulate the production of collagen. This procedure will require several sessions and may be combined with other procedures, such as MicroDermAbrasion, peels, etc. These procedures do not cause any discomfort.

If you have an interest in this procedure, the physician and staff will discuss the appropriateness and expected results.
