Pigmented Lesion Removal

Services Available The UV rays of the sun cause a drying and coarsening of the skin and an appearance of increased pigmentation (melanin). The benign pigment changes may take the form of lentigines (age spots, liver spots, etc) or more diffuse changes (dyschromia). Also, sun exposure increases the incidence of various types of skin cancer, which require different types of medical treatment than those offered at the Aesthetic Medicine Center.

The majority of pigment changes are non-cancerous. The pigment changes mentioned above may be treated by either Laser or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) using the Syneron Polaris® or Aurora® treatment systems. The Laser or IPL combined with the radio frequency (RF) with skin cooling break the melanin down and it is absorbed into the system and eliminated. The targeting of the melanin by the energy sources, with the protective skin cooling, effectively removes the pigment while leaving the normal skin unaffected. This procedure may be used on isolated lesions or may be a part of the skin rejuvenation package. These procedures do not cause any discomfort.

A consultation with a physician at the Center will determine the appropriate procedure for you. If it is the opinion of the physician that your area of pigmentaion requires a dermatological or surgical consult, you will be referred to the appropriate physician.
