Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the charge for treating leg veins?
The treatment of leg veins is a very individualized procedure because each patient will have veins of varying number, size and location. Also, the presence of other skin changes due to aging and disease processes may dictate the type of therapy. It is not possible to quote the cost for this vein therapy over the telephone and a consult with the physician to plan treatment is needed. The therapy may be started on the day of the consult. The charge for the consult will be applied to the procedure charge.
2. How many treatments required to remove hair?
Hair grows in stages and only the active hair follicles at the time of the procedure will be affected during that treatment session. A minimum of 3 treatments will be needed, approximately 4-6 weeks apart. However, depending on density, location, hair and skin color and hormonal influences, additional treatment sessions may be needed to cause complete hair removal.
3. What is the cost of hair removal?
We can quote rates over the telephone for hair removal from various areas of the body. An estimate of the number of treatments for permanent hair removal will require a consult at the center. The first hair removal treatment may be done on the day of the consult
4. How long does Botox and collagen last?
Please see the sections on "Botox treatment" and "collagen and other filler injections" on this site. Access through the "Services" Menu.
5. How long is the recovery time following treatment?
All of the services provided at Aesthetic Medicine of New Hampshire allow the patient to return to usual activity on the day of the treatment. There may be slight skin redness after skin rejuvenation and microdermabrasion, which resolves in a few hours. Sun screen should be used after all procedures.
6. What is the difference between intense pulsed light (IPL) and laser as they apply to cosmetic use?
Both types of light energy may be used to treat abnormal pigment and vessels and do hair removal, as well as stimulate collagen production.
IPL tends to have more effect on the upper skin structures while the laser targets the deeper structures, such as the leg veins. The Aesthetic Medicine of New Hampshire Center has both IPL and laser and the staff uses each technology to give the best result for the problem being treated.
7. How does the Syneron intense pulsed light (IPL) and laser equipment differ from the other widely-available cosmetic lasers?
The Syneron Aurora IPL and the Polaris laser use two complimentary energy sources. The pulse from Aurora is a combination IPL and radiofrequency (RF) energies and the Polaris produces laser and RF energies. These machines produce their intended effects on the targets in the skin at lower light (laser) levels than the other available technologies. Lower light energy means more protection for the normal surrounding skin. Cooling of the skin also adds another level of protection. The combination of energies also allows treatment of all skin types.
8. What is the cost of facial skin rejuvenation?
(For an explanation of this therapy see the Facial Skin Rejuvenation section on this site. You may access this information through the "Services" menu.)
The cost per treatment will vary depending on the extent of the area being treated. The whole face or only a selected problem area may require treatment. We can give you an estimate of the cost of each treatment over the telephone, but you are encouraged to have a consult with the physician to learn about the procedure and receive an accurate price. There are 5-session packages available with microdermabrasion and introductory skin care products for a significant cost savings. The therapy may be started on the day of the consult. The charge for the consult will be applied to the procedure charge.
9. How should the area for hair removal be prepared before appointment?
The area to be treated needs to be shaved prior to the appointment. Shaving is necessary to remove surface hair that interferes with the IPL or laser treatment. Laser or IPL hair removal works by using light of a specific wave length, which targets the hair in the follicle, thereby heating the follicle and destroying it. If there is surface hair, the light is partly absorbed by the surface hair and less energy reaches the targeted hair follicle. Many women are reluctant to shave facial hair, thinking that shaving causes greater subsequent hair growth. However, shaving does not increase rate or texture of hair growth.
10. What is the WRINKLE REDUCTION SYSTEM?
The Syneron Polaris wrinkle reduction system has recently been approved by the FDA. As the skin ages collagen(elastic tissue) is lost and leads to the laxity and sagging. During the Polaris treatment Radio Frequency (RF) energy is applied to the skin to penetrate into the dermis to stimulate collagen production and strengthening.
The Thermage® system has recently received much attention in the media because of its ability to increase collagen production using RF and skin cooling. The Polaris wrinkle reduction uses a similar technology, but lower levels of RF are applied. The total treatment generally requires 3 to 5 sessions, but it does not cause significant discomfort, especially when used with skin cooling and an anesthetic cream applied to the skin. In addition, the Polaris system uses an accompanying laser pulse, which eliminates unwanted pigmentation and prominent blood vessels commonly seen in aging and sun-damanged skin.
11. What is the total Facial Skin Rejuvenation Package?
When Facial Skin Rejuvenation is purchased as a package it includes 5 Aurora IPL/RF treatments, 5 Microdermabrasions and an introductory Skin Care products kit. The Wrinkle Reduction System service may be added as an option for a low fee.
12. How should I prepare for leg vein treatment?
If you think you will be getting leg vein treatment on the day of the consult or have an specific appointment for vein treatment, we suggest you bring a pair of shorts to wear during the procedure. It is best not to apply any creams or lotions to the areas to be treated on the day of treatment.
